Social Security and the Democratic Party
With the upcoming November elections in mind, we thought we'd bring you a few facts regarding Social Security. You may find this interesting and while reading, keep in mind, the Democratic Party tells us the Republicans want to take away our Social Security.
President Roosevelt introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. When he did, he made some promises to the people.
- Participation in the program would be completely voluntary
- Participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual incomes into the program.
- That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income tax for tax purposes each year.
- The money would be put into an independent 'Trust Fund' rather than the general operating fund, and would, therefore, only be used for Social Security purposes.
- That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.
Needless to say these were all false promises. President Lyndon Johnson (Democrat), and the Democratically controlled House and Senate moved the Social Security funds from the Trust Fund to the general operating fund and it was all spent. Al Gore, while serving as Vice President, cast the tie breaking vote in the Senate which resulted in 85% of Social Security Annuities being taxed. He too is a Democrat.
Jimmy Carter (Democrat), while serving as President, introduced a bill to give immigrants Social Security annuity payments. Immigrants started moving into the country and at age 65, they began receiving payments even though they never paid in a dime to the program. Way to go Democrats!
Needles to say the program is no longer "completely voluntary." The 1% tax on the first $1400 is now 7.65% on the first $90,000 you make. And your employer has to match that. Of course the money is no longer tax deductible.
So after violating all the terms of the original contract with the people, spending our money, and giving it away to people that don't deserve it, the Democrats tell us they are "For the People" which is a bunch of bull. And here's the best part - - they want to raise the entitlement age to 70!
Don't forget, Congress gives themselves 100% retirement for only serving one term. What's up with that? If they had to live by the rules they make, they'd make them a lot more fair.
Election Day is November 2, 2010. If we want change, we're going to have to do it ourselves. Maybe then we won't have to bend over first.
