Rockin' the ABATE Campground for Leesburg Bikefest - 2010
Once again the Lake County ABATE campground was a huge success for Leesburg Bikefest, 2010. Each year more people talk about how it was really "Goin on" out there, and each year it gets bigger. A new field was opened for 2010 expanding the campground size by almost double and still, it was filled by early evening on Friday.
Vendor row had anything you might be looking for whether it was a t-shirt, patch, jewelry or doo rag. They all came in and set up on Thursday under the direction of all the ABATE volunteers. Credit must be given to all of them. They are the ones that make the campgroun behind the Eagles a success. Lake County, which has a huge chapter, provides security, people to man the gate, patrols the campground and mans the registration desk. All of this 24/7. They put in a lot of hours and should be commended.
The Eagles provided a big full service tiki bar with a huge covered pavilion for everyone to party under. Shade and cover if it rained along with a 10' x 20' covered stage. Bikercove.com booked the bands and provided music for everyone when the bands weren't playing. Everyone enjoyed it and many simply just stayed there most of the weekend.
Friday night Spitfire kicked of the live entertainment and really rocked the campground with their classic rock lineup. People were dancing on the tables and probably would have been on the rooftop if they could have gotten up there. It was a real blast. ABATE provided plenty of t-shirts and other items to throw into the crowd. Bikercove.com brought in beads, Glow necklaces and bracelets for everyone to wear. It was an awesome night and if you weren't staying at the campground, you know how hard it was to park to see the show. May as well come in early next year and stay right there!
Saturday started off with bloody marys and easy listening under the tiki bar. As more and more people came up to join the recovery, the party got going once again. Local traffic came in about 4:00 p.m. to start setting up and kept people interested. The road out front was again packed with bikes and cages. They kicked off about 8:00 p.m. and simply tore the place up playing Southern Rock in it's finest form. They were on the money and all pro in their show. Local Traffic was scheduled until midnight but the crowd was pretty serious about them staying so they did until 1:00 a.m. Way to go! Both bands had a blast playing for everyone there.
Sunday morning was the normal end of a bikefest day. People packing up, some wondering what happened the night before, some eager to return to their homes and recover, other wishing it would keep going. It doesn't really matter what category you fall in to, if you were there, you know we'll see you next year. Best part is, we always scope out bands and if everything works out - we'll have a real treat for you next year!
We have a bunch of photos below. First some of the ABATE volunteers who deserve credit for making this a success. After that you may find your picture if you were there, the pictures are followed by a video of local traffic playing pride and joy. Not the best quality - kind of tough with all those people!
Thanks to everyone that came in and rocked the ABATE campground, and to all the volunteers! Leave a comment at the bottom if you like.
