8th Annual Rock-N-Wheels Benefit in Live Oak
Each year the Rock-N-Wheels event held at the Suwanee River Music Park & Campground raises money for someone in need. This year they hadn't been contacted with any tragic events so they decided to donate to the Family Readiness Fund for military families. The fund had been set up to help families of our soldiers who were serving overseas. A pre-event party was set up for everyone that was volunteering. After the party, Kevin Daugherty was killed by a cage on his way home. It was decided that funds raised would be donated to the military families, but in his name. It was a very unfortunate incident taking the life of a young but generous biker and custom builder.
The event was set up to support thousands with plenty of vendors, a huge stage, lots of room and plenty of activities. The campground started filling up Thursday and people kept rolling in at a steady pace through the weekend. Security staff were in place and treated everyone great. Local law enforcement was there to help and in a cordial way.
The band line up was great. Some of the local bands performed during the day time with more known bands in the evening including; Core, David Cooler, Girlz, Girlz, Girlz, and Big Engine. We have some video included in the article but we were a bit close to the stage to get good audio. Big Engine closed out Saturday night and their drummer is a show on his own. Definitely check out the video and watch some real talent! The crowd was pleased with them all and danced through all the shows.
The bike games Saturday were well organized. The was the slow race, weenie bite, plank ride, road kill and balloon toss. Everyone enjoyed them and there was plenty of participation. The burnout competition was about the best we've seen. The first one was recorded and is below. AFter that one, there was no point in recording any others. This guy has obviously blown many tires and knew what he was doing.
Once core was done playing, the porta potty races were on. If you don't know what they are, a customized porta potty is attached to the back of a bike. Two are lined up and when the signal is given, they race to the finish line with a passenger screaming in the porta potty. There's a video below with the second race. They got a little over zealous and fortunately no one was hurt. Ever see a porta potty travel at about 60 MPH?
Big Engine came on after the race and they really rocked the place. If you ever get the chance to see them, go for it. They don't take breaks and one song rolls right in to another. Like we said earlier, the drummer is a show on his own. The crowd stayed with them until they were done around 1:00 a.m. and everyone headed to the campground.
The campground was all about the party. Activities everywhere and things started getting interesting. A golf cart went by with about 40 people on it. A few minutes later another went by with a porta potty behind it. Everyone was having a good time. Fortunately all the Core guys are OK. Hope the tire tracks washed out. One guy decided to make the campground a racetrack showing off his drag pipes all night while people needed to sleep. If the story is true, thanks to the black & white for sending him to bed. Amazing he didn't hurt himself or someone else.
The event was a great success with about 2,000 people attending. Over $4200 was raised to be donated to the Family Readiness Program for out military in Kevin's name. A big thanks to everyone that came and chipped in. It's all about helping people while having a great time. There was one memorial T-Shirt made for Kevin. It was auctioned off for $700. That in itslef shows what our community is all about!
On behalf of the organizers and volunteers - a big thanks to everyone. Without you - - nothing happens!
Enjoy the pictures and videos.
